My beautiful sister and brother delivered the most amazing and precious little boy yesterday at 7:36 pm. He weighed 7.95 lbs and is 21 inches long. A head full of dark hair and looks just like his daddy.
He was diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy after a true knot was found in the umbilical chord and had wrapped around his neck. Not knowing exactly where things stood, the doctor decided to send him to the NICU at Grady. He is currently stable but critial. We pray that his little body will continue to fight against the odds, AND HE IS A FIGHTER! He has a long road ahead of him and we won't truly know what damage was done until the 72 hour mark. They currently have him in theraputic hypothermia to try and repair as much damage as possible during this critial time. Jennifer and Thomas will be able to see him tomorrow and are looking forward to being reunited with their baby.
Please pray for them as they begin this uncertain journey. I know that there is a purpose for every time under heaven and while this has broken our hearts more than you can imagine, we are all regrouping and praying and believing God for miracles.
thank you sweet friends. I am going to try and encourage them to start journaling on CaringBridge, but right now they just aren't able to even think about that. I will try and keep updates here at least once a day for any changes or specific needs that he has. If you want to leave them a message or any well wishes, you can comment here and I will send them along to them every day. They need all the encouragement they can get :)
much love from us and our precious little man!
The whole family is in my prayers.

ReplyDeleteJennifer, Thomas, I will be praying untill I hear news the your little one is really one the healing road. I also woul like to let you know I know the feeling you are going through, my son had to fight to live. He is adopted but still all mine, birth was from a crack mom, and other drugs. The just is he was born with lots of problems, but God knew I was waiting for this little one. I can not have children and he needed a loving mom. We got through all the first years of hospital stays and sickness.
ReplyDeleteI was up round the clock with him. I would trade the sickness, but not the time I had with him, and pray, well every time I touch him I prayed. My encouragment to you is my son is no 19 and has some medical problems but he is strong and healthy as can be. He now weights 198 and is almost 6 feet tall. So don't give up and keep your hands and love and pray like no orther time in your life. I will pray just as I did for my son. I stand with you and your family lifting up your little one.
I'm praying for your angel to have a safe and speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteWow! I completely understand the pain and hurt that your family is dealing with right now. My nephew who is two years old was born with serve complications as well. We were all uncertain if he would survive and I remeber rejoicing about these same milestones.. when he peed for the first time.. when his cpap was taken off and when my brother and sister-in-law were able to hold him for the first time. I thank God everyday for our Mighty Tucker!!! Our family will be praying for your family and that you will have a Mighty Porter!!!
ReplyDeleteGod is forever in control and I am praying that he will continue to keep his hands on Porter. He has all power in his hands and myself as well as my church will pray declare and degree a healing in his body and restoration... Be encouraged that God hears prayers of those that need him and believe.
ReplyDeleteI will keep Porter and his family in my prayers!! Stay strong and keep your head up.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an amazing story. My husband and I have been going through something similiar. Our baby girl was born early on May 6, 2010 at 24 weeks and only weighed 1 LB 8 oz. She was on the ventilator for a month and a half. Then on CPAP for a day then on high flow for a few weeks and the regular nasal canula..She had to have heart surgery at 2 weeks old. Now she is off oxygen completely and has started bottle feeding. She had eye surgery yesterday but she is doing wonderful. She is now up to 4LBs 8 oz..It is amazing what medicine can do. I just thought my story might give Jennifer a little bit of encouragement. I will be praying for them and lil Porter.
ReplyDeleteI am just starting to read this about beautiful journey....I know from the 21st of July that 'all is good' so that helps. Like reading a book, a happy ending is always a good start so 'here goes'.
