Porter McClain's Birth Story

Jennifer and Thomas have been more excited than any expecting parents I have ever been around. She had a wonderful pregnancy and was so excited when they told her they would induce labor at 39 weeks. On Saturday, July 10th, her water broke around 4, labor was very fast and at 7:36 Porter McClain was born. They realized at birth that he wasnt breathing and couldn't find a beart beat. His umbilical cord had a true knot in it and it made a large loop which some had slipped over is head and around his neck.

After administering CPR they resusitated him and put him on the respirator. He had regained color in his skin, but was seizing often and still remained unresponsive. They also realized that the blood in the cord showed a high level of acidity which would cause us to think the organs might have also suffered damage, not just the brain from the lack of oxygen. The doctor decided to send him to Grady's NICU where they could perform a procedure called "Theraputic Hypothermia" which lowers the babys body tempurature and allows his metabolic rate to slow so the body stops any further damage and allows time for any recovery of the damaged cells to repair.

He only had until 6 hours after birth to begin this procedure, and made in time. They will begin to bring his body temperature back up Wednesday and then they will begin to assess the brain and get a better idea of how long he was truly without oxygen.

We are praying every minute of every day that God will continue to touch him and we believe that despite what we saw with our natural eyes, that supernaturally our Father will continue to touch him and bring him complete healing.
